Frank's parents are Frank Albert "Ted" and Maude Edna (King) Abbott. (He was a "junior", right down to his nickname, although he never used the suffix.)

He was born in Illinois but a few years later the family moved to St. Lawrence, Hand County, South Dakota. In the late 1930's, he followed his older brother, Earl, to Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington.

He first married Lettie Lucille Clanton. In 1939, on August 24th, they were married. (His younger brother, Albert, stood up for him.)

He owned service stations in Bremerton. Lettie worked as an operator for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. During the War, she began working as a telephone operator for Puget Sound Navy Shipyard.

He second married Mavis Ferguson (Doan) Hemet, June 27, 1982 to Mavis Fergerson.
