Alonzo Brown Dies Sun. At Grundy Hospital: Was 97

Alonzo Brown, one of the oldest residents of the county, died Sunday at the Grundy hospital. He was 97 years old last March. He had been in failing health several years and was a continuous patient in the Grundy hospital since March 6, 1957. Death was due to advanced age.
The body has been at the Ferree Funeral Chapel, where services will be held Thursday afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. E. E. Basye. Burial will be in the family lot in the Fifteen Mile Grove Cemetery.

Alonzo Brown was the sixth child born to Andrew and Elizabeth (Stumbaugh) Brown. The children were all born in Clinton county and came to Grundy county with their mother after the death of their father in Clinton county.
They purchased a farm six miles south of Grundy Center and that remained their home up to the time of their deaths. The mother was in the early nineties when she died. Alonzo was the last of the family to pass on. Only two members of the family of eight children married. The sons were George Wallace, Charles, Alonzo, and Llewellyn Lewis. The daughters were Charlotte J., Ellen, Clara, and Cornelia. The mother and five of the unmarried children made their home together on their farm. The Family built a very comfortable home and had a lovely flower garden, and they loved good books. Their garden was a beautiful spot during the summer time and it attracted many flower lovers during the summer season.
when they built their new home they kept all their old furniture and antiques and stored them in the old house. Souvenor collectors often visited the old house, but none of the old family collection were for sale.
Alonzo Brown was born March 25, 1864. That was before the close of the Civil War. the only survivors of the family were nieces and nephews, none of whom live in this area.
