Julian F. Walters Died At 70: Was Former Teacher
Rockville Resident Retired From Treasury Department Last Summer
Julian F. Walters, lifelong resident of Montgomery County, and a teacher in the public schools for 25 years, died Friday at his home in Rockville, after a lingering illness. He was 70.
Walters also spent 15 years in the Treasury Department, retiring from that service last July. Born in Darnestown, he took an interest in county affairs during his life. He was particularly active in the work on the Democratic Party until he entered the Government service, and was at one time tax collector for the county.
He was principal of the old Brookeville Academy and High School for a number of years and also taught in other schools in the county. In recent years he devoted much attention to fox hunting in the county, maintaining a pack of hounds. He had lived in Rockville for the last 18 years and was one of its best known citizens.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Ricketts Walters; a sister, Mrs. Annie Richter, of Rockville, and two brothers, Harvey Walters, of Washington, and Carroll Walters, of Darnestown. A daughter, Mrs. Charles P. Clark, of Rockville, who is a member of the faculty of the Takoma Park Elementary School, and a son, Lieut. Julian Fairfax Walters, of the navy yard in Philadelphia, also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, at the home. The Rev. H. K. Pasmo officiated. Burial was in Forest Oak Cemetery at Gaithersburg.
