Funeral services for Joel Samuel Patterson, Route 2, Sumrall, who died at noon Sunday at the Methodist Hospital, were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Hickory Grove Baptist church. Burial was in Hickory Grove cemetery.
The 89-year old farmer had been in the hospital nine days prior to his death.

Survivors include three sons, J. J. and I. T. Patterson, of RFD 2, Sumrall and G. W. Patterson, Gulfport; seven daughters, Mrs. B. F. Moree, Mrs. M. L. Williamson and Mrs. J. D. Williamson, all of RFD 1, Sumrall, Mrs. H. L. Lee and Mrs Drusilla T. Dietrick, both of RFD 2, Sumrall, Mrs. R. B. Lee of Hattiesburg and Mrs. C. M. Broome, Yazoo City; one sister, Mrs. Janie Hegwood, Hattiesburg; 52 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Hulett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Lavell Patterson, Junior Patterson, Bobby Patterson, Ivan Lee, Emerson Moree and Roscoe Hudson.
