John Cadwallader was born in Manorbier, Pembrokeshire, Wales, the son of John and Susanna Williams Cadwallader. On Valentine's Day, 14 February 1807, he married Alice Morgan (13 years his senior?) in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
An exerpt from a family history written by Anjanette Stone Lofgren, one of John's 4th great granddaughters, writes:
"Family tradition says that John Cadwallader was a wealthy farmer who was a descendant of Cadwaladr "Fendigaid" Ap Cadwallon, also known as King Cadwalladr the Blessed.
