"...Timothy Darling, the father of our subject [John G. Darling], was born in Ontario County NY in 1811 and was by occupation a farmer. In 1842 he removed to Cattaraugus County, the same State, where he opened up work on a farm in the hills, and became well-to-do. He died there August 13,1872, being a member of the Baptist Church."

Timothy and (wife) Diantha lived in a "one-story, unpainted frame house ... and had a difficult time making ends meet with eleven children" ... in Leon, Cattaraugus, New York.
