Retired fire Captain Roy D. Carter passed away on Thursday, 22 Apr 2010, in Ridgecrest, CA. Roy will be greatly missed by his friends and family, who remember him for his work ethic and his keen sense of humor.
Roy was born in September 1913 to Frank and Etta Carter of Clarksville, AR. He was married to his sweetheart, Iris, in 1938.
During their 60-year marriage, Roy loved gardening and Iris enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He often said that a green thumb was nothing more than a lot of hard work.
Roy and Iris moved to Ridgecrest, CA in 1945, where he took a job with the China Lake Fire Department and worked there until his retirement in 1974. He was also instrumental in establishing the Government Employees Benefit Association.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Iris.
He is survived by his daughter Myrna Stevens; son David Carter and wife Patsy; son Robert Carter and wife Marcia. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
