SYLVESTER CARTER DIES - After a lingering illness of typhoid fever which later developed into pneumonia, Sylvester Carter died at his home at Minnow Creek near Hagerville at 10 o'clock Monday evening, February 9.
"Syl", as he was known to his intimate friends, was the oldest son of F. C. Carter and was born in this county on September 6, 1877. His entire life was spent in and near Clarksville, where he had a host of friends.
He was happily married twice, his first wife, who was a Miss Ida Neely,married June 10, 1900, Clarksville, Johnson County, Ark.(April 15, 1875- July 16, 1904)dying some twenty years ago. They were the parents of two children. He later married again and to him and his last wife were born six children.
He is survived by his wife and eight children, his father, F. C. Carter, two sister, Mrs. Alice Mills of Logan county and Mrs. Hattie Allen of Hattisville, Ark., and several half brothers and sisters, all of who reside here.
Syl Carter was a man of sterling integrity, kind and generous, and highly respected in the community where he resided. He had long been a member of the Christian church and funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ church in Clarksville at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning, by Rev. H. E. Hice. Burial took place in Oakland cemetery immediately afterward.
His sorrowing relatives have the deep sympathy of the entire community in their loss.
