Mr. William Welch and his daughter who lived on the upper Molalla were drowned in the Molalla near Thomas Jackson's on Thurs. last. In attempting to cross the stream in a wagon, the horses became refractory and he was compelled to unhitch them from the wagon. He then took both horses to the bank, left one, and returned with the other to the wagon. Taking his daughter on behind him he attempted to return, but the horse again became unmanageable and threw them both into the stream, from which they were unable to escape. The body of the old gentleman was soon recovered, but when I last heard from there, the young lady's had not yet been found."
