Mary Smith is a Republic of Texas Pioneer. She came to Texas in 1831 with her husband William Smith and daughter Anna Maria. Her husband deserted her in 1832 and she re-married several years later to William A. Smith (No known relation to the first husband) Mary and Anna were part of the Run-Away Scrape during the Texas Revolution. Her second husband died sometime after 1850 and she moved in with Anna and her husband William Staines. The home was in Galveston. Mary died of pneumonia Jan. 25, 1866 and was buried the next day in the Old City Cemetery. Her grave was covered over after the 1900 storm had washed away so much of the soil.
Mary was my great-great-great grandmother.
