Mrs. A. E. Cheney Dies On Coast; Funeral To Be Here
"Following an illness of several months, Mrs. Jennie W. Cheney, widow of Judge A. E. Cheney, died early this morning in San Francisco. The body will be returned to Reno on tonights train and funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday morning at the family residence. 253 South Virginia Street, with Dean Bayard Jones of the Episcopal Church conducting the services. Burial will be in the family plot in Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Cheney, whose husband, the last Judge A. E. Cheney died on March 13, 1932, had been a resident of Reno since 1891 and was for many years one of the most prominent woman in the community in social and club affairs.
The attractive Virginina Street home of Judge and Mrs. Cheney was among the first substantial residences built in that part of Reno in the early '90's, and was for two decades the center of a cultured society circle.
Mrs. Cheney, whose maiden name was Jennie Wethered, became the wife of Judge Cheney in Eureka, Nevada in 1887. She was a native of Portland, Oregon. The removed to Reno in 1891 soon after Judge Cheney was elected district judge of the district which then included Washoe, Humboldt and Churchill counties. At that time district judges were elected at large and after election selected their districts among themselves.
Mrs. Cheney leaves one son, Everett W. Cheney, Reno attorney, and a brother, William L. Wethered, of San Francisco."
