Info from the 1880 Gwinnette County census shows Anna Hudgins, age 23, School Teacher, boarding at the home of Mrs. Emily Dyer [wife of Bluford]. Emily,age 59, was listed as a housekeeper. John A. was age 21. Anna Hudgins was raised around Auburn, Lee County, AL. After she and John married they moved to Mellow Valley Alabama where they both taught school. They built a home in this area and began raising a family. John became ill with pneumonia and died at age 36. After John's death Anna married a Mr. Willoughby and moved near Boaz, AL; but shortly returned to where she and John had lived, close to John's brother, Buford Irvin Dyer; It is said that Buford and his wife, Martha, helped Anna with the raising of her children.

Several of the children were educated at Snead College close to Boza and Albertville, AL. Anna's second husband, Mr. Willoughby, was also a teacher.

A grandson of John A. [John Francis Dyer] said that John had not fully recovered from pneumonia when a forest fire occurred in the area where he lived. He left his sick bed to assist neighbors in putting out the fire. He died as result of this.
