b. 27 Jan 1783, RI, (b. Monday - reverse calculation from age at death - Cemetery Records).

m. Bef 1810. (Looks like he is married in the 1810/1820/1830 Census).

m. (1) by 1821 _____;[391]
391. This first marriage assumes William Bowen was the father of William Bowen (1821-
1891), for whom see note 397 below.
397. Huron County, Ohio, Grave Records, 3 vols., 3:78. She was buried with William
Bowen, 1821-1891, presumably her stepson. William Bowen, born in New York, died of typhoid
pneumonia in Fairfield 25 November 1891; unfortunately his death record, like most of the others
on that page, does not name parents (Huron County, Ohio, Record of Deaths, Vol. 1 [1867-1893]:
175).

m. (2), by Rev. Welsh, Warren 23 July 1826, to MARY YOUNG,[392] who d. in Warren 7 July 1828,

392. The marriage of William Bowen of Sempronius, New York, to Mary Young of and at
Warren was reported in the Providence Journal and Providence Phenix (Arnold, Vital Record of
Rhode Island [note 25], 16:249; 17:117). Mary (Young) Bowen, wife of William Jr., was
dismissed from the First Baptist Church of Warren on 4 Aug. 1826, presumably to move to
Cayuga County with her new husband (Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island, 8:558).
393. The Rhode-Island American and Providence Gazette, 15 July 1828, p. 3, reported the
death of Mrs. Mary Bowen, wife of William Bowen of Sempronius, on the previous Monday
afternoon while she was visiting friends in Warren.
394. Date of death and parentage are from her gravestone, read in 1999 by John E. Sterling
for the Rhode Island Historic Cemetery Database. The stone was at that time of only fair legibility,
and it seems likely that the age at death (apparently ``in her 59th year´´) was not correct.

m. (3) by 27 April 1837 MARY _____,[395] b. N.J. ca. 1788,[396] d. Fairfield, Huron Co.,
Ohio, in 1863, age 80, bur. there in North Fairfield Cemetery.[397]
395. She signed a deed with him then (Cayuga County Deeds, 56:124-25).
396. 1850 U.S. Census, Fairfield Township, Huron County, Ohio, roll 697, p. 170.

William bought land from his father, twenty acres in Sempronius Lot 34 in
1820 and another 88 acres there in 1833[398] but only held it for a few years. He
and his third wife Mary sold it all to Obadiah Howland in 1837.[399] They may
have been preparing to move west. By 1840 William Bowen and his large
family were counted in Fairfield, Ohio.[400] In the 1850 census William Bowen,
67, was living in Fairfield with Mary 62, and children John 25, Lidia 23, and
Edward 18.[401] William was mentioned in his father´s second will (1852) as a
resident of Huron Co., Ohio.
389. John Mills was the spokesman for his siblings in the unsuccessful suit against their
uncle George W. Bowen over the management of their grandfather`s probate (Cayuga County
Surrogate´s Records, Box 31). Pierce Belden was probably the Persann Mills mentioned in
``Reminiscences´´ (note 384).
390. Luther, Moravia [note 356], 411.
391. This first marriage assumes William Bowen was the father of William Bowen (1821-

2011] Nathaniel and Esther (Carpenter) (Bardeen) Bowen
Although there is a gravestone for William Bowen, Jr., in West Niles
(Davison) Cemetery in Niles, Cayuga Co., N.Y.,[402] near those of his parents,
he was still a resident of Huron Co., Ohio, when he died. On 13 July 1854, his
widow Mary Bowen declined administration of his estate and Owen Smith was
appointed.[403] In 1860 his widow was found in the Fairfield household of her
son Edward Bowen, 29, and his family, with stepson William Bowen, 38, and
his family sharing the same house.[404]
