Junior B. George, 94, of Humboldt, passed away January 13, 2016 at his home with his 12 children by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father James Tigges, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements. masonlindhart.com
Junior is survived by his children, Pat (Mike) Dalton of Humboldt, David George of Mount Vernon, WA, Colleen White of Spirit Lake, Rebecca (Kirk) Rolland of Ames, Linda (Jim) Dodd of Humboldt, Madelyn (John) Riles of Humboldt, Loretta Rose (John) Daggy of Urbandale, Peggy (Mike) Williams of Humboldt, Therese (John) Davis of Aurora, CO, Pamela (David) Stockdale of Humboldt, Marcella (Rick) Shackelford of Edmond, OK, and Joe (Tami) George of Valparaiso, IN; 28 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and his brother, Jerry (Joann) George of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta in 2009; sons-in-law, Mike White and Jack Hayler; 2 sisters, and 5 half siblings.
Junior Burnell George, the son of Allan and Cleora (Wells) George, was born April 6, 1921 in Humboldt, Iowa. He was raised on a farm west of Humboldt and attended school in Humboldt.
He married Loretta Conlon in 1942. The couple farmed south of Humboldt for 2 years and east of Humboldt for 16 years before moving to Dakota City in 1960. He worked at many jobs during and after his farming years including the government bins for 11 years and with Edge’s Excavation for 3 years. From 1969 until his retirement in 1986, Junior served as the Assistant Street Department Supervisor for the City of Humboldt. In his retirement, he served as the groundskeeper for the Humboldt County Fair Board for 5 years.
Mrs. George passed away in 2009 and Junior continued to maintain his home in Humboldt. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed people and especially loved giving them a “bad time”. In earlier years, he enjoyed dancing with Loretta to Lawrence Welk and big band music. He recent years, Junior spent his days with his coffee friends at Ampride and keeping track of the traffic passing by his home on 2nd Ave South.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to St. Mary's School.
