Helen Fern Curtis Miller passed from this life Sunday, July 31, 2011, to join her loving husband, Stanley. After 65 years of marriage, they were only apart for 3½ months.

Helen was born Dec. 17, 1926, at home near Manhattan, Mont., to Tom and Fern Curtis; she was the youngest of four children. Helen was always extremely proud of her Curtis heritage as her relatives were some of the original settlers in the Gallatin Valley during the 1860s.

After graduating from Belgrade High School in 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Miller, and began her life's journey as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In 1959, the young family moved to the north side of Rupert, Idaho, where the adventure began as they transformed their desert homestead from sagebrush into a thriving irrigated farm.

During this time, Helen also was employed as a program assistant by the USDA-ASCS office in Rupert until she retired in 1988. Following her retirement, she continued to fill her days with gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing bridge and square dancing. She also was able to spend more time with her beloved children and their families.

In 2004, Stanley and Helen left the family farm and moved to Twin Falls to be closer to family. Helen was a longtime and committed member of the National Secretaries Association and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her parents; and two brothers and their spouses. She is survived by her son, David Miller; daughters, Marcia Miller and Nancy (Galen) Hieb; grandchildren, Brandon (Christina) Miller, Danna Cox, Lodie Steen, Rebecca (Marc) Ramsey, Sara Hieb, John (Leslie) Hieb and Michael Hieb; and seven great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her sister, Alice Cook; and a large extended family in the Gallatin Valley of Montana.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Rosenau Funeral Home and Crematory, with a reception to follow. Burial for Stanley and Helen will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Meadowview Cemetery in Manhattan, Mont.
