O'Beria Furr
BROSVILLE, Va. - O'Beria Hankins Furr, 78, of 348 Peacock Acres Trail, Danville, Va., died on February 18, 2002, at her residence following declining health for several years.
Born on April 5, 1923, in Henry County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence C. Hankins and the late Lizzie Eanes Hankins.
She was married on October 5, 1958, to Thomas Eugene Furr, who survives. Mrs. Furr had lived most of her life in the Axton and Brosville communities. She had retired from American Furniture of Martinsville after 14 years of services where she was a Dowl Pin operator in the sample department. Mrs. Furr was a member of the Brosville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Eugene Furr of the residence; son, Riley C. Compton of Gloucester, Va.; daughter, Patsy C. Harris of Lewisville, N.C.; brother & wife, L.C. & Sarah Hankins Jr. of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; brother & wife, James Melvin & Sarah Hankins of Brosville, Va.; sister & husband, Inez & Calvin Ball of Danville, Va.; sister & husband, Juanita & Fletcher Yarbrough of Ridgeway, Va.; 2 granddaughters, Renee Compton & Jessica Weeks; 2 grandsons, Andrew Harris & Auther Harris; 1 great grandson, Tyler Harris; 1 god granddaughter, Jessica Hankins; 4 nieces; & 8 nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, & 1 sister, Pauline H. Eanes; 2 brothers, Clarence A. Hankins, Woodrow H. Hankins; and 1 grandson, Ronald C. Compton.
The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21st, from Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Dave Rochford & Reverend Daryl Joyce. Entombment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence 348 Peacock Acres Trail in the Brosville community.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to a charity of choice.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
