LOUISE LESKOVEC
A mass of Christian burial for Louise Leskovec was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs. The Rev. Tom Sheridan officiated. A scriptural rosary was celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 1997 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs. Interment was in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Dr. Paul Zancanella, Dr. Donald Zancanella, Arthur Taucher, Harold Swanzy, Richard Frerichs and John Kure.
Leskovec, 94, of 2210 Sheridan Street, Laramie, died at 7:08 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 1997 at Community Care of America in Laramie.
A resident of Laramie for the past seven years and former longtime resident of Rock Springs, Leskovec had been in ill health for the past two and one-half years.
She was born June 21, 1902 in Zabnica, near Skofja Loka, Slovenia, the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine Dolinar Luzan. Mrs. Leskovec came to Rock Springs with her mother in April of 1910 to join her father. She attended elementary school and Rock Springs High School. Mrs. Leskovec married Matthew Leskovec on Oct. 2, 1921 at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs. They operated a small dry goods store for 10 years until the Great Depression. Her husband preceded her in death on March 14, 1974.
Mrs. Leskovec moved to Laramie to reside with her daughter in 1990.
She was a member of Lodge No. 86, American Slovenia Catholic Union, and its treasurer for many years. Mrs. Leskovec was also a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs until moving to Laramie where she was a member of Saint Paul’s Newman Center. Mrs. Leskovec was also a member of ST. Monica’s Sodality, Young-at-Heart Senior Citizen’s Center and Catholic Golden Age in Rock Springs.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and James Zancanella of Laramie; there grandchildren and their spouses, Paul and Vicky Zancanella of Rock Springs, Doanld and Dorene Zancanella of Albuquerque, N.M. and Jean and Richard Frerichs of Salt Lake City; six great-grandchildren, Matt Zancanella of Riverton, Bryel and ReAnn Zancanella, botho f Rock Springs, Anthony and Jean Louise Zancanella, both of Albuquerque and Brian Frerichs of Salt Lake City; one great-grandson, Keeton Zancanella of Riverton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Leskovec was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Louise, two brothers, Leo and Peter Luzan; and one sister, Molly Zaversnik.
