Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Center City for Mrs Swen Victor Carlson who died Feb 20 at the home of her son Royale residing near Shafer. Rev J Walton Kempe officiated for the 79 year old citizen who was prominent throughout the Shafer and adjoining communities.
Pallbearers were: Emil Tabort, Axel Elmberg, George Melander, Rueben Shogren, Alfred Ahlstrand and Charles Videen. In the service Mrs Edmund Jonason sand two numbers, "All the Way My Savior Leads Me and Under His wings" Miss Agda Wennerberg played the funeral music and was accompanied Mrs Jonason.
Mrs. Carlson whose maiden name was Younggren was born in Ljuder Parish, Kronoberg County, Sweden April 6, 1866. Sweden passed away at her son Royale's home near Shafer at the age of 79 years, 10 mo and 14 days. She was baptized in Sweden at the age of 5 came with her parents to America. Mrs Carlson was confirmed in the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church June 5, 1881.
The deceased was married twice. She was first united in marriage with Frank Walman who passed away a year and a half after they were married. A daughter was born to them, but this chid passed away at the age of three months. On February 20, 1892 she was married to Swen Victor Carlson and these have lived together until 1944 when Mr Carlson died. Mrs Carlson succumbed on the date of her 54th wedding anniversary.
To Mr and Mrs Carlson 6 children were born: Mrs Eleanor Johnson, Mrs Esther V Nelson both of whom now reside in Minneapolis, Carl Edwin Carlson, who passed away in 1924, Mrs S Herberg of Taylors Falls and two sons, Paul of Center City and Royale A V of Shafer.
5 of her children now survive here to mourn Mrs Carlson's death.
There are also 7 grandchildren, 2 brothers Otto Youngberg of Centuria WI and Victor Younggren of Oak Park MN and three sisters, Mrs Hilda Muller of San Jose, CA, Mrs Charles Malmborg and Mrs Swen Victor Carlson and Mrs Christofer Anderson both of Minneapolis.
Mrs Carlson was one of the charter members of the Ladies Aid Auxiliary of te Chisago Lakes Lutheran church. She with her husband were much devoted to their church and gave unstintingly of time and means toward the development of the local parish where she will long be remembered for her energetic service.
