Daughter of John P. Linville and Fleety Mae Williams. Wife of Robert V. Flora. Sister of Monila Linville Lunsford. She died as a result of complications from pregnancy at age 16. She was buried along with her stillborn infant.

There is no birth or death certificate for her and she was omitted on the 1920 census, the only census taken during her lifetime. The only proof that she existed is a marriage record for her in Crittenden County to Robert Flora, and birth and death dates written in her mother's Bible. She and Robert Flora married 08-May-1938 in Crittenden County. Marie was age 15 at the time of her marriage and had just turned 16 at the time of her death.

Her widowed husband, Robert Flora, returned to visit her grave often, even as late as the 1960's. He enlisted in the military for World War II on 17-Dec-1942. He stated he was a widower with no dependents. Ironically, he died less than one year after Monila Linville Lunsford, my mother and Marie's sister. He was buried just a few yards away from Monila's grave at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.

According to the family, she died at the home of her parents, near where Hwy 42 leaves Hwy 149 and turns east towards Turrell. It was referred to as the "Sharver Place".

She was attended up until her death by Dr. Irby of Earle. He apparently did not file a death certificate. The family prepared her for burial at Gibson Bayou and placed the stillborn child at the foot of her coffin.

She was called "Little Marie" and was named for her father's sister (Margaret/Margie) and for her mother's youngest sister, Marie Williams. She was said to have had dark red or auburn colored hair. She talked with a lisp. My grandmother, Mae Williams Linville, had a large doll, with red hair, that had belonged to Little Marie. She kept it covered, on her wall, and made new dresses for the doll once a year. The doll remained on her wall until her death in 1972. After that, the doll went to the possession of her sister, Monila Linville Lunsford. It is unknown where the doll is now.

Note: Robert Flora was previously married to Birdie Mae Dees on 14-Dec-1931 in Crittenden County. They both resided in Turrell. Birdie Mae Dees was the daughter of Virgie M. Short, through her first marriage, and the granddaughter of Mary Geneva Robinson Short Hobbs who is also buried in this cemetery.

Her grave was marked by her niece, Debbie Lunsford Yates, August 2002.
