He was born April 27, 1926, at Rexburg, Idaho, the son of William Lawrence and Eda Smith Trost. Rulon grew up in the Rexburg area, where he attended his schooling graduating from Madison High School and attending Ricks College. During World War II, Rulon served in the U.S. Navy.
Rulon married Wanda J. Wilson on July 14, 1946, in her father's home. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Sept. 27, 1986. They lived in Idaho Falls, Nyssa, Ore., and finally in St. Anthony, where they have lived for many years. Rulon owned and operated the Trost Feed and Seed. Wanda passed away May 9, 2010.
Rulon was a member of the Elks, served as Chamber of Commerce president in St. Anthony, and served in many church callings, including High Priest group leader, financial clerk and serving in the Ricks College High Council. Rulon enjoyed work, golfing and racquetball.
Rulon is survived by his children, Rulon Lane (Bette) Trost of Portland, Ore., Rand W. Trost of Boise, Idaho, Wade A (Terri) Trost of St. Anthony and Gay Lyn (Zane) Miller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Bert (Lois) Trost and Norma Lee (Colin) Tanner. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Arlo.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, in the Twin Groves 2nd LDS ward, with Bishop Gerald Hackworth officiating. Burial will be in Rexburg Cemetery, where military rites will be preformed by the Madison County Burial Team.
