Miss Iola Harwood, daughter of Levin Breathitt Harwood and Jane Breathitt Marmaduke Harwood, was born in Saline county, near Arrow Rock, June 8, 1850 and died at her summer home here in the Spring Grounds Thursday August 23rd. She received her education at Mary's Institute and Sacred Heart Convent in St. Louis. She moved with her parents to Sweet Springs in 1881 while her uncle John S. Marmaduke Served as Governor of Missouri. Miss Harwood was the official hostess of the governors mansion. She is survived by two brothers, Breathitt and Marmaduke Harwood. a short funeral service was held at the residence here by Rev. Snapp, pastor of the Methodist church, at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. Saturday morning the remains were taken to Kansas City, to be laid to rest by the side of her father and mother in Elmwood cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who were here to attend the funeral, included: Dr. William Harrison and Miss Mattie Sparks of Marshall, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Nelson of Booneville, Miss Cecil Shepherd of Kansas City, Mrs. Leslie Marmaduke and daughter Miss Mamie of St. Louis.
