Isaiah Bates, 87, of Lafayette, former local resident, died last Sunday evening in Indianapolis. His parents were John and Nancy Bates of the Newcomer neighborhood. He was married to Rebecca Platt, who died in 1918. Survivors are two sons, Roy and Earl Bates of Detroit, Mich., and two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Wilson of Greenfield and Miss Blanche Bates of Indianapolis.
Mr. Bates was a carpenter and contractor by trade and for a time when living in Mulberry was a partner of Henry Osterday in the real estate and insurance business.
The funeral was conducted at the Kleinsmith Funeral Home Wednesday forenoon by the Rev. P. J. Hamilton. Burial was in the Springvale cemetery in Lafayette.
