W C HINTON

OKOLONA – W.C. Hinton, 92, longtime Okolona resident and recent resident of the Panama City, Fla., area, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Sims Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Springfield, Fla., after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Gladys Hinton and father of Pat Hinton Commander and the late Alice Faye Hinton Flynn.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Okolona, with military honors. Rev. H.B. Miller and Rev. Bill Harrison will officiate. Private burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

W.C. Hinton left this life on Earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Clifford Sims Veterans Home in Springfield, Fla.

W.C. was born on June 21, 1920, in Houlka, Miss., to Clara Bryant Hinton and Roscoe Hinton. He celebrated his 91st birthday at Clifford Sims Veterans Home with family, friends and staff on June 21, 2011.

He attended school in Houlka, Miss. W.C. was a Mason and a life member of the American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo, Miss. W.C. was drafted into the Army as a rifleman in June, 1943, Company "A" 314th Infantry Battalion. He served in the European Theatre, fighting across several countries. He is a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He and two other brothers, Mack Hinton and Ray Hinton, were in uniform during World War II at the same time.

After his discharge on Nov. 19, 1945, W.C. returned to his wife, Gladys, and children, Alice Faye and Patricia Ann, in Okolona, Miss. He worked for many years in the garment industry in Okolona. After retiring, he owned and operated Hinton's Motel in Panama City, Fla. After his second retirement from the motel business, he and Gladys moved back to the family home in Okolona and lived there until the need to be near family required they move to Lynn Haven, Fla. He is Methodist by faith and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Okolona.

W.C. is predeceased by his wife of 60-plus years, Gladys Harmon Hinton; and daughter, Alice Faye Flynn. Seven brothers and sisters predeceased W.C. They include Mack Hinton, Ruby Shempert, Ray Hinton, Blanche Palmer, Kate Steele, Christine Winters and Roscoe "Rock" Hinton.

He is survived by one sister, JoAnn Pate, of Houlka, Miss. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Commander (Charles) of Lynn Haven, Fla. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Phyllis Flynn Mabowitz (Eric), Patrick Flynn, Shanun Commander White (A.J.) and Charlie Commander (Cassie). "Paw Paw" also leaves six great-grandchildren, his pride and joy.

Pallbearers include Charlie Commander, A.J. White, Eric Mabowitz, Charlie Reifers, D.L. Winters and Skip Winters.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m., an hour prior to services with military honors, at First Methodist Church in Okolona. He will be buried next to his beloved Gladys at Lee Memorial Gardens in Verona, Miss.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Clifford Sims Veterans Home and Covenant Hospice for their loving care of Paw Paw. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to these worthy organizations.
