Alice Faye Flynn

MOBILE, Ala. - Alice Faye Hinton Flynn, 64, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at her residence in Mobile after an extended illness. She was born in Jan. 6, 1941, in Houlka to W.C. and Gladys Harmon Hinton. She was a graduate of Okolona High School and received her B.A. from Mississippi State University and her M.A. from the University of Mississippi. She taught elementary education in the public schools of Chickasaw and Pontotoc counties for 32 years. She retired after teaching seven years at Oak Hill Academy in West Point. She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the Dauphine Way United Methodist Church in Mobile.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Untied Methodist Church in Okolona where she was a longtime member, with the Rev. Bryan Scarborough, the Rev. Russell Fletcher, the Rev. Dr. Gorman Houston and the Rev. Betty Flynn officiating. Burial will be in the Flynn Family Plot at Brewer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Holland-Harris Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Philip Gene "Phil" Flynn, whom she married on Aug. 20, 1961; her daughter, Phyliss Flynn Mabowitz and husband, Eric; her son, Terry Patrick Flynn and wife, Shea; grandchildren, Eric Flynn Mabowitz, Kevin Robert Flynn and Jason Philip Flynn, all of Mobile; her parents, W.C. and Gladys Hinton of Lynn Haven, Fla., formerly of Okolona; her sister, Patricia Hinton Commander and husband, Charles, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; her brothers-in-law, Billy Carl Flynn and wife, Betty, and Charles Riley Flynn and wife, Nan, all of Tupelo; her nieces and nephews, Shanun Commander White (A.J.), Charles William Commander (Casey), Bradford Flynn (Kim), Lane Flynn Harris (J), John Flynn (Monique), Rachel Flynn Hopper (Howell) and Allyson Flynn.

Pallbearers will be Terry Allen, Ferrel Gates, Charles Moore, Scott Shempert, Stacey Parker, Chuck Carlisle, Allen Roye and Donald Austin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Okolona Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday.
