Dot was born in Utica, Miss., on Oct. 27, 1931.
She was the first of three daughters to Douglas and Doris Nelson. Dot and her sisters, Louise Nelson Broussard (deceased) and Shirley Nelson McPherson, lived in Port Gibson where the Nelsons ran a cattle ranch and a grocery store.
Dot graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a degree in business in 1953.
While she was in school she met and later married Calvin Russell Andress of Wiggins, Miss., on Nov. 15, 1953, and was faithfully devoted to him for 56 years.
The Andress family moved several times throughout the South, settling in Houston where they lived and worked for 25 years before retiring to Tyler, where they lived for 18 years. In Tyler, Dot and Russ joined the First Baptist Church and the Newcomers Club, where they made many wonderful and supportive friends.
She volunteered at The Salvation Army Auxiliary and delivered meals with the Meals on Wheels program.
Dot is survived by two children, Douglas Russell Andress of Houston and Martha Andress Johnson of Brookeville, Md.; and two grandchildren, Douglas Andress, and Katy Andress.
She deeply loved her family and is cherished and loved by them.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
