A memorial service for Calvin Russell Andress, 81, will be held on Wednesday November 23 at 10:00 am at the Lloyd James Funeral home in Tyler, Texas.
Russ was born on January 25,1928 in Wiggins, Mississippi, and died at home in Tyler, Texas on November 21,2009.
Raised in Wiggins Mississippi he was the youngest of 3 sisters and 7 brothers.
He grew up loving the outdoors and learned to hunt and fish with his brothers on the many saw mill ponds around Wiggins.
On November 15, 1953 He married Dorothy Nelson of Port Gibson and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He dearly loved his wife and children and was cherished and loved by them all.
Russ joined the Army Airforce on his 18th birthday and was discharged on his 21st birthday in 1949.
He served in the aerial photography group in Colorado and in the motion picture production group in New York City.
He attended Perkinston Jr College in Mississippi, Mississippi Southern University, recieved a Bachelors degree in biology in 1952 and a Masters degree in entomology from Mississippi State University in 1953. He worked as a university professor at Mississippi State and at Texas Tech University. He worked as a professional agricultural entomologist with Stauffer Chemical Co for 27 years and Uniroyal Chemical Co for 6 years. He was the President of the SW branch of the Entomological Soc. of America in 1987.
Russ was fortunate to have traveled around the world visiting 40 foreign countries, all of the continents and crossing the equator 6 times.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tyler, volunteered at the Salvation Army and was a proud Mason and member of the Scottish Rite (32 degree).
He will be buried in Port Gibson Mississippi on November Friday the 28th at the Wintergreen Cemetery.
