AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Joseph 'Joe' Andress, 88, husband of Eva Mae Holston Jones Andress and of the late Frances Elizabeth Huffaker Andress, of San Sebastain Dr., Hephzibah entered into rest Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Downtown Veteran's Administration Hospital. Funeral services were held from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend Mark Taylor officiating. Interment with full military honors followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Andress, a son of the late Thomas Sumpter and Missouri Elizabeth Bond Andress, was a native of Wiggins, MS. He served in the United States Army Signal and Medical Corp during World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired with the rank of M/SGT. Mr. Andress was a member of the Wiggins Masonic Lodge for fifty years. He built and was the administrator of the Andress Nursing Homes of Waynesboro and Augusta, GA from 1968 until 1976. Mr. Andress was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. In addition to his first wife Mr. Andress was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Sumpter Andress. Mr. Andress is also survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James Rodney and Charlene Andress of Martinez and Raymond R. and Lynda Andress of Hephzibah; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth 'Betty Jo' Andress and Russell Darden of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; niece and her husband, Donna Mary Owens and James Martin, Sr. of Hephzibah; brother, Calvin Russell Andress of Tyler, TX; sisters, Winifred Calandra of Lakeland, FL and Blonda Breland of Wiggins, MS; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Russell Darden, Robert Darden, Albert Youngquist, Randolph Youngquist, William Youngquist and Anthony Martin.
