Joshua owned a small farm and worked at his trade of shoemaker and currier, half a mile north of the old Baptist meetinghouse, on the road to North Hampton. Here he was killed by lightning when going to his door as a thunderstorm had nearly passed by, June 14, 1766 at about six o'clock in the afternoon, age 70. He married Bathsheba Robie December 24, 1717. She is the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Page) Robie. He and Bathsheba became members of the Congregational Church in Hampton, March 10, 1718, of which he was deacon for many years.
