An Affectionate Remembrance

Mary Ann,
wife of David Batters, of Norbiton, Surrey, and eldest daughter of Charles and Annie Alder, of King ‘s Stanley, Gloucestershire, who fell asleep in Jesus on Tuesday morning September 24th, 1878 in the 23rd year of her age.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 1 Thessalonians 4:14, 15

She fell asleep in Christ her Lord;
She gave to him to keep
The soul his great love had remembered,
Then calmly went to sleep;
And as a tired bird folds its wing,
Sure of the morning light
She laid her down in trusting faith,
And did not dread the night.
