Austin Kelderhouse Laid to Rest in Evergreen Cemetery
COLLINS -- Funeral services for Austin H. Kelderhouse, who was found dead at his home Friday, were conducted from the Collins Methodist church Sunday, June 22 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Louis H. Joslin officiating.
Flower bearers were Clara Serbein and Marie Titus.
Soloists were Mrs. Wayne Laughlin and Mrs. Donald Pointer. They sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" accompanied by Mrs. C. R. Stone.
Casket bearers were Lloyd Campbell, Gaylord Clark, Kenneth Downing, Wayne Laughlin, Earl Milligan and Harve Southern.
Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins.
Obituary
Austin Henry Kelderhouse, the son of Georgiana and John Kelderhouse was born in Rockford, Minn., on October 2, 1869, and passed away at his home in Collins, Iowa, at the age of 82 years and eight months.
On June 20, 1894, he was united in marriage at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ada E. Tardoff*. To thi union were born three sons and five daughters. One daughter, Etta Coles, preceded him in death in 1947. Mrs. Kelderhouse passed away on December 17, 1950.
Children surviving are: Chester, of Colo; Everett and Floyd of Collins, Bertha Weis, of Cedar Rapids, Mabel Deal of Des Mones, Gladys Dulaney of Bluford, Illinois, Viola Abarrr of Knoxville, Iowa. Also 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a number of nephews and nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Kelderhouse moved to farm near Cedar Rapids, where they lived about three years, then on February 18, 1898, they purchase a farm near Collins where they resided until 1945 when they retired, moving to Colo for a year, then coming to Collins where they maintained a residence until his death.
In early boyhood Mr. Kelderhouse united with the Evangelical church near Palo, Iowa. In 1920 he and Mrs. Kelderhouse became members of the Collins Methodist church under the ministry of the Reverend Ingvolstad.
Mr. Kelderhouse was an industrious and intelligent farmer all his life, and will be remembered for his friendly spirit. He was a good friend and a generous neighbor, and loved to visit with those who called on him or met him on the street.
