Art was born May 22, 1916 in Mapleton Depot, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He married Lorma Viola Hooper on 25 December 1938. They had three daughters, Susan, Diane, and Betty. Art was a Drilling and Explosion engineer for heavy construction and was a pioneer in the pre-split drilling and blasting technique and is credited with the development of millisecond delays (blasting cap) used in this type of drilling. He retired from Vipond and Vipond, Inc. Hollidaysburg in 1974.
