George W. Abbott
George West Abbott, 79, of 172 S. C Street, Timberville, died Nov. 2, 1991, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
He had been in failing health. Mr. Abbott was born July 2,
1912, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late John Preston and Olive H. Zirkle Abbott.
He had owned and operated Abbott's Garage in Timberville for 35 years and was a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church in Broadway.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps 330th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group. Mr. Abbott saw air combat in the Balkans, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Egypt-Libya and received several medals.
He was a member of the Liberator Club.
On June 14, 1945he married the former Vesta J. Clift, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda A. Fulk of Timberville and Debra A. Long of Broadway; a brother, Frank H. Abbott of Mathias, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Caroline Folks of Bethesda, Md., and Lena Coffman of Timberville; and four grandchildren.
The Rev. David Burrough will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Sunset Drive United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Linville Creek Cemetery at Broadway.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
