Michael and Nancy also reared two of their
nephews who were both named John W. Harvey.
Who were nicknamed "Squire John" married his
cousin Eliza, and "Crazy John" was far from
being crazy and was among the first students
to attend Concord College. He taught school
for many years.

John Wesley's mother died when he was quite
young, and he was reared by his uncle,
Michael W. Harvey. His education began in a
one-room log school near the home of his uncle.
The school was located on the upper waters of
Little Bluestone (a tributary of Bluestone River)
near the old Pack Mill. He applied himself well
to his studies and like his father and grandfather
became a teacher. He began teaching in 1875 in a
school similar to the one he had attended.

Nancy Tate Harvey was born in 1812 and died in 1892. She was born either near Staunton, Virginia or in Monroe County, Virginia. She died in Jumping Branch District, Summers County, W.Va. She was a daughter of Richard and Dorothy "Dolly" Gentry Harvey. Nancy and her husband, Michael, were said to have been cousins. She first united with the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Monroe County, but later moved her membership by letter to the Camp Creek Church at Flat Top.

Michael and Nancy were married in the year of 1833 in Monroe County, Virginia and subsequently became the parents of the following children:

1. Austin Ballard who married Mary Ann Ellison

2. one son who died in infancy

3. Emaline who married John R. Ellison

4. Margaret Matilda who married William H. "One-Armed Bill" Lilly

5. Celia Ann who married Mather Adkins

6. Mary Jane who married Charles J. Vest

7. Delilah Frances who died while a young woman as a result of being thrown from a horse.

8. Eliza E. who married "Squire John' Harvey.

They also reared two of their nephews, John W. Harvey (Crazy John) a son of Joshua Harvey, Jr. and Agnes (Houchins) Harvey.
