Michael W. Harvey was born in 1812 and died in 1889. He was born in Monroe County, West Virginia and died in Jumping Branch district, Summers County, West Virginia. He was a son of Joshua Calvin Harvey, Sr. and Sarah Ann (Swope) Harvey. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Michael Swope, the first known male white child born in the territorial limits of Monroe County, or (as for that matter) southern West Virginia. He was a member of the Camp Creek Regular Primitive Baptist Church at Flat Top, West Virginia.
Michael and Nancy were married in the year of 1833 in Monroe County, Virginia and subsequently became the parents of the following children:
1. Austin Ballard who married Mary Ann Ellison
2. one son who died in infancy
3. Emaline who married John R. Ellison
4. Margaret Matilda who married William H. "One-Armed Bill" Lilly
5. Celia Ann who married Mather Adkins
6. Mary Jane who married Charles J. Vest
7. Delilah Frances who died while a young woman as a result of being thrown from a horse.
8. Eliza E. who married "Squire John' Harvey.
