Obituary:
Capt Joseph Dickerson, son of Joseph and Mary Jones Dickerson, was born Sep 11, 1834 and died where he was born Oct 11, 1913. For about 40 yrs he had been in Seattle, Washington where he had watched the city grow from from a population of 1200 to a great city of 250,000.
Capt Dickerson was a soldier in the Union Army from Jul 1862 to Sep 1865 and participated in the following great battles: 2nd Bull Run; Frederick City, Md; South Montain; Antietam: Siege of Vicksburg and Jackson, Mississippi; Kennesaw Mtn; Nickajack Creek; The Atlanta Campaign; Ezra Chapel; Jonesboro; Clinton; Statesboro; Toper's Crossing, GA; Benton, NC; as well as others.
He never made any public confession of religion, but he had high regard for the worship of the Almighty God and prayed himself to God. His brothers and sisters were: Joshua, Rebecca, Jane, Hannah, Thomas, William, Susanna, James White, and Samuel McCreary. John and Barugh died in infancy. Thomas of Marion, Kansas, and Samuel M are the only survivors. The funeral services were held at the Dickerson M.E. Church on Tues conducted by the Rev J.C. Spring assisted by Rev George L Davis of Cadiz and Rev Jesse Mills of New Athens. Internment in the Dickerson Churchyard Cemetery.
