Jesse Cowden Riley was born January 5, 1886 in Crawfordsville, Iowa. He was the son of John and elizabeth Lemon Riley. He spent most of his life in the Columbus City area and was a retired farmer. He married Mary Ellen Willet on December 16, 1912 in Columbus City. Mrs. Riley died in 1966.
He is survived by one son, Charles Riley of Columbus Junction; two daughters, Mrs. Chaarles (Mildred) Dunnahoo of Columbus City, and Mrs Harry (Dorothy) Ashby of Burlington; 13 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; and a half sister, Mrs. Eunice Marion of Columbus City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one daughter, two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Miss Donna Belle Hughes was organist and Mrs. Kenneth Carrell was soloist. Casket bearers were Daryl James, Melvin and Larery Ashby, Dennis and Leland deWitt. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.
