"After Matilda's death, Samuel took a large sum of money to Lexington, Kentucky to invest in real estate. In 1841, the Vick family was notified by members of the Masonic Order in Lexington that he had died and had been buried by the Masons. The three surviving orphans were raised by their aunt, Martha Vick, and their Uncle, William vick."

" Matilda and her husband, Samuel had at least 5 children with the surname of McCRAY: 1.) Amanda Louise, born Abt 1825 & died Abt 1845. She married a Dr. Samuel Magruder; 2.) Robert Newet, born 06 Nov 1828 & died 05 Jun 1833; 3.) Mary Jane, born 04 Mar 1830 & died 08 Jul 1833; 4.) General William Vick, born abt 1832 & died 08 Aug 1885. He married a Ann Elizabeth Irion first and then married a Lucy Herndon Rawlings; & 5.) Matilda Elizabeth McCRAY, born 19 Jul 1835 & died 18 Feb 1919. She married a Frederick Redfield Southmayd."
