According to family history, when Avila Oliver Prevost moved his family from Canada to Michigan, he had the whole family changed their last name from "Prevost" to "Prevo" because there were so many Prevost's in the area and would be easier for them to get their mail. Over the years since, some members of this family have gone to court to change their last name back to "Prevost". My grandfather was born in Alpena under the last name "Prevo" and had his last name changed to "Prevost" after all his youngest child was born. After his children were grown up, they all went to court to have their last name back to Prevost.
