Funeral services for Jack Warren Bannister, 86, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary—Eudora Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Eudora Cemetery.
Mr. Bannister died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at his home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Dalzell, Ill., the son of Amos and Charity Wood Bannister. He was the youngest of eight children.
He served in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division, 15th Infantry, based out of Fort Ord, Calif., during World War II. He attended Grace and Glory Bible College in Kansas City, Mo., and taught there for a number of years. He was one of the original founders and pastor of Grace Chapel in Carbondale, from 1958 until 1980. He also served as pastor at Christian Assembly Tabernacle in Kansas City, Mo., from December 1980 until October 1981. With his wife, he published a faith-based monthly magazine, The Point Of Reference, from 1981 until the present; the publication continues.
Mr. Bannister was a member of the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence.
He married Lois Clark on June 7, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Dawn Rosebrough and husband Larry, Topeka, and Lesli Eller and husband Bruce, Gardner; and one son, Charles Bannister and wife Donna, Eudora; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
