Not much is know of Elisha prior to Nov 1686, he first appears in New Hampshire early records as a witness of a signed document by Richard Paine. His birth is an based his isted age at the time of his death; age 57 yrs. His parentage has not been proven to date nor his birthplace. It is a possibly Elisha was b. in Devon County England, arriving about 1684/5. A large number of the early settler families of Portsmouth and surrounding areas of New Hampshire came from Devon County, England. Elisha wife was born in Devon County, England, arriving with her parents in 1680s, settling in Dover, New Hampshire area.

Elisha married Abigail Drew on 4 Oct 1689 Dover, New Hampshire; documents from the Early Dover Ancestrial Collection Records. She was listed as daughter of
John Drew.

Elisha by occupation was a Blockmarker. This occupation was a person who made the printing blocks used in this era for printing. According to his Will he bequeath his Blockmarker shop, land and other buildings attached to shop only were to be divided equally to his four daughters. One third each of home dwelling, lands and garden divided between his widow Abigail and son Samuel. The remaining of these properties were bequeath to his four daughters.

Elisha served his community as a juror, constable, committe member, attending town meetings and a successful Blockmaker Shop owner.
