When John Walter "Walt" Crow was born on September 21, 1870, in Apple Springs, Texas, his father, Robert Dixon Crow, was 33 and his mother, Lucinda Caledonia Randolph, was 24.

John lived in Texas during the Apache Wars, when white settlers and native Apache Battled for control of the area. When he married Nellie Lee on November 17, 1917, in Apple Springs, Trinity County, Texas, John was 47 years old.

They had six children in 13 years. Ina Merle Crow, John Wilson Crow (Died of Appendicitis age 7), Stella Mae Crow, Robert Linwood Crow (Died of Appendicitis age 4), Charles C. Crow and J. W. Crow born August 12, 1932.

John's father Robert Dixon Crow passed away on January 12, 1921, in Lufkin, Trinity County, Texas, at the age of 83.

John Walter Crow was the constable of Trinity County and during a shoot out with Brink Lemuel Hollis (FAG #76427376), in front of the Sue Salser Store, they were both shot by each other and died at the scene. According the Lufkin Daily News clipping, apparently there was a misunderstanding over the drowning of several goats belonging to John Walter Crow.

John died on April 23, 1932, in Apple Springs, Trinity County, Texas, at the age of 61, and was buried in the Glendale Cemetery, Lufkin, Trinity County, Texas.
