Leola married Nelson on July 10, 1929, in Toledo, Illinois. They were married at the home of her grandfather, by an uncle of Leola's, the Rev. H. W. McPherson. They stood in the same place as Leola's parents 25 years previously. Nelson and Leola had two daughters, Margie (born 1931) and Peggy (1939-2001).
