The Correctionville News, 25 December 1930, page 6: Mrs. Mary Baumann died last Tuesday morning, December 16, 1930, in the Hartley Hospital at Battle Creek, where she had been a patient since November 30 when her collarbone and some ribs were broken in an automobile accident. She seemed to be recovering from her injuries but on December 10th she had a stroke of paralysis from which she did not rally. Mary Zaiser was born June 23, 1856, at Aurora, Illinois. The early years of her life were spent in Aurora. On January 4, 1877, she married Leonard Baumann. They moved to Clarence, Iowa, and started farming. In the spring of 1885 the Baumann family moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Cushing where they lived until 1903 when they moved into Cushing. Here Mr. Baumann died twelve years ago. Mrs. Baumann continued living here until April 1927 when, due to failing health, she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Avery Kent, near Battle Creek, and resided there until her death. She was one of the pioneers of Ida County and had a part in the building up of the community. She was a charter member of the Cushing M.E. church and was always an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She leaves to mourn four sons, William of Cushing, John of Battle Creek, Charley of Charter Oak, and Fred of Lake Benton, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Hughes of Sioux City and Mrs. Bessie Kent of Battle Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Bradshaw of Aurora, Illinois, and Mrs. Regina Stuart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; nineteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Short funeral services were held at 12:30 Thursday afternoon at the Kent home and at 2 p.m. Rev. J.V. Madison of Sioux City conducted services in the M.E. church here. Interment was in the Cushing Cemetery. Six of her grandsons were pallbearers.
