Dennis "Sandy" Captain, 78 of Miami, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin Missouri following a long illness.
Sandy was born April 8, 1933 to Thomas and Florence (Longan) Captain.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Sandy worked for B.F. Goodrich for almost 31 years retiring in 1986 when the rubber plant closed.
He was a member of the Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F.&A.M., he was a member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, serving for many years and presently on the business committee, People's Bank Board and Burgraff Board.
He was married on October 8, 1955 to Zoleta Gleaves in Miami, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: John, Thurman, George and Charles and an infant sister Stella Mae.
He is survived by his wife of the home, one son: Michael of the home, one daughter Monica Bettis and husband Wayne and a grandson Jesse all of Seneca, Missouri, brother: Leo Captain of Miami, two sisters Virginia Hart of Largo Florida, and Sue Kropp of Quapaw, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ed McFall officiating and Elder Bobby Bluejacket will Speak, Native.
Burial of Cremains will be at the Captain Family Cemetery, East of Miami, Shawn King Ceremonial Chief will conduct Indian Rites.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to American Kidney Foundation.
