Adaline was born 1862 at Centralia, Ks. She was the fourth child of William James and Martha Dooley McLaughlin. Her father was one of the first school teachers there and a pioneer family.Their home was one of the original homes of the community and was where she spent her girlhood. After the death of her husband William, she made her home with her
youngest daughter Merle Bailey near Onawa, Iowa. Merle became ill with hepatitis so Adaline stayed with her grandaughter Addah Johnston for awhile. Later she stayed with her daughter Mabel Whisler at America City,
Kansas. Breaking her hip, she was taken to the Seneca hospital and returned to America City where she died a short time later in 1946. She was returned to Iowa and buried next to her husband William at the Belvidere Cemetery near Turin, Iowa She was remembered for her good sense of humor.Source Judy Whisler
