Ruth Deviney
Atchison, Kan. — Retired Maj. 87, Atchison, died Wednesday, June 17, 1992, at a health care center.
Miss Deviney attended St. Patrick's Grade school south of Atchison and graduated from Mount. Saint Scholastica Academy in Atchison. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, St. Joseph, as a registered nurse in 1927. After serving as the chief surgical nurse in the obstetrics department of the Atchison Hospital, she moved to Olive View, Calif., where she worked as a registered nurse from 1932 to 1937. She served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps from 1941 until her discharge in 1964.
Following her discharge. Miss Deviney worked for the Red Cross and the VISTA program in Kentucky and Tennessee, where she served as a midwife. She returned to Atchison in1985.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and St. Joseph's Church both in Atchison; and of American Legion Post No. 6, Atchison.
Miss Deviney was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Deviney and two brothers, John and Harold.
Surviving: a sister, Lois Yocum of Atchison.
Prayer Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Harouff-Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. Rosary: 7 tonight, immediately followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.
