He grew up in the Vassar community and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1938. Arlie and his brother Kenny went to California and worked for Boeing until he enlisted in the Army on October 31, 1942. He served in the 892d Air Service Squadron. Serving in Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe. Arlie received the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, and four Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Ribbon and the American Theater Ribbon, he was discharged as a S. Sgt.
On September 3, 1950 Arlie married Betty Lou Nichols in Lyndon, to this union two sons were born.
Arlie owned and operated Miller Hy-Klas Grocery Store in Lyndon from 1956 to 1971, then worked as a meat inspector for the State of Kansas until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, belonging to Post 125 of Lyndon, and was past Commander of the 4th District.
Arlie is survived by his wife Betty of the home, sons David Miller of Osage City, Donald Miller of Lyndon. Two grandsons Jared Miller of Emporia and Jason Miller of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Kenny, Loren, Dean, and Marvin; two sisters, June Tillman and Shirley Meiers.
Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12th, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. prior to service at Feltner Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Vassar Cemetery with Military honors, by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials in Arlie's honor may be made to American Legion Post 125 or the Alzheimer's Association send in care of Feltner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 160, Lyndon, Kansas 66451.
