Betty J. Fonner, 81, of Columbus, Ind., died Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Fonner worked for the former Gene's Cafeteria and owned a fish restaurant in East Columbus. She enjoyed crafts and watching sports, especially NASCAR racing.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street, with Dr. William Griffith officiating. Calling will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Fonner was born April 23, 1926 in North Vernon, the daughter of Ed and Anna Day. She married Donald E. Fonner March 1, 1946 in North Vernon.

Survivors include a son, Dennis E. (Joyce) Fonner of Columbus; a sister, Gertrude Seward of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Bryan (Amber) Fonner of Columbus and Holly (Greg) Tourville of Warren, Mich.; and great-grandchildren, Hayden Fonner of Columbus and Madilyn Tourville of Warren, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 21, 1997; brothers, John and Charles Day; sisters, Virginia Furguson, Florence Davis, Louise Bolar, Frieda Smith and a sister who died at birth.
