"Sallie" Catharine Chapline was born 24 March 1853 the fifth child of William R. Chapline and Margaret Ann Hout Chapline. Sallie grew up in Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, Virginia [now West Virginia].
The Shepherdstown Register, published 20 May 1876, reported that in Hagerstown [Md.] on Wednesday evening, 17 of May, Mr. William H. Staley and Miss Sallie Chapline, both of Shepherdstown were married by Rev. Dr. Owens.
The couple lived in Bel Air, Maryland. The Staley's had five children: Harry, Leonard, John, Lillian, and Lester. Sallie's husband William died in 1916. Sallie died on 5 March 1942 at age 88.
