Matilda Didion was born on September 25, 1886, in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana, the sixth child of John and Marie Bechtel Didion.

Matilda Didion married Albert Fred Carl in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia, on March 3, 1908. Albert died at age 37 of a stroke. Matilda Didion married again on April 30, 1925 in Wheeling to Chester Lee Fisher of Sherrard, Marshall County, West Virginia. Chester Fisher was a widower. His first wife Rhea Virginia Frazier passed away in 1918 less than one year after they were married. Chester and Matilda agreed to be buried with their first spouses. Chester and Rhea are buried in Allen Grove Cemetery, Sherrard, Marshall County, West Virginia. Rhea died in childbirth along with their daughter.
